The first step in upholstery is collecting all the tools you will need to complete step 1 (deconstruction)
Because many people who want to recover a single piece in their home are doing so as not to have to spend a ton of money to get what they want, I am giving you 2 toolbox lists for every step (and a full compiled list later on...). One toolbox list will consist of things I had lying around my house when I did my first chair, or necessities that are on the inexpensive side (i.e. a $20 staple gun + hammer). I will also highlight my favorite tool for each step to give you a better idea of where to spend your money if you choose to do so.
Around the House Toolbox:
Multi-tool/Leatherman Pliers/Vice Grip Wire Clippers Gloves (Safety First!) Hammer Notebook Pen/Pencil Camera Sharpie |
Pro Toolbox:
Osborne Staple Lifter (Favorite!)
Tack remover Pliers/Vice Grip/Webbing Pliers Side Pliers Gloves (Safety First!) Notebook Pen/Pencil Camera Sharpie |
It is also great to have a friend help with the teardown
Note: In most of the tutorials I will be using a chair, but the same basic principals apply for most everything (from headboards to ottomans to couches)
